Orvieto is a city perched on a majestic plateau made mostly of tuff, a friable magmatic rock that is easy to work with. Orvieto is a collection of tunnels, man-made cavities and working environments found beneath the city of Orvieto, Umbria. Etruscan, Medieval and Renaissance eras: water network (wells, cisterns, tunnels, silos), pozzolan and tuff extraction cavities, working environments. In the late 1970s, a sudden landslide caused a major fracture in the Orvieto cliff, just a few meters from the cathedral, and sparked the rediscovery by some speleologists, who decided to enter the ravines they were studying from the outside. To their amazement they discovered an entire underground city, full of rooms connected by tunnels and galleries lit by small windows, wells, columbaria, cisterns and even an oil mill. The first to excavate this underground city were the Etruscans, when Orvieto was still called Velzna, a city that had achieved total independence in terms of water supply, thanks precisely to the wells they dug and the cisterns for collecting rainwater. The mere fact that this underground city was completely forgotten is magic in itself. It is a labyrinth with as many as 1,200 nooks and crannies (which cannot be fully visited and are open to the public), including tunnels and caves, for thrills galore, from the beginning to the end of the tour. Varanasi, città sacra agli hindu sorta sulle rive del fiume Gange, ospita numerosi templi e centri di meditazione. MAHARASHTRA Mumbai, la porta occidentale del paese e la capitale finanziaria dell'India, metropoli dotata di un aeroporto internazionale e di un porto. L'architettura in stile gotico di Mumbai (Bombay) è presente nella porta dell'India (costruita per commemorare la visita al durbar di Delhi di re Giorgio V e della regina Mary) e in altri monumenti (Gli edifici dell'Università, l'Alta Corte, l'Antico Segretariato e il Vittoria Terminus). Meritano una visita anche altri monumenti di Mumbai, il Museo Principe di Wales, la galleria d'arte Jehangir, le numerose chiese, templi e sepolcri. Aurangâbâd (situata a circa 400 km da Mumbai), città collegata da voli interni, risulta un  punto ideale per visitare le famose grotte di Ajanta ed Ellora. Ellora, nota per le meravigliose ed intricate sculture induiste, buddiste e jainiste. Ajanta contiene le pitture e sculture che raccontano gli avvenimenti principali della vita del Buddha (200 a.C. e 800 d.C.). REGIONI OCCIDENTALI MADHYA PRADESH E' il più grande stato di tutta l'India e possiede innumerevoli monumenti, magnifici templi scolpiti, stupa, forti e palazzi. Bhopal, la capitale, famosa per i suoi reperti archeologici, sorge attorno ad un grande lago. Gwalior, antica città che possiede uno splendido tempio. Orchha, città medievale con i suoi palazzi e cenotafi a circa 120 km da Gwalior. Mandu, la città deserta famosa per la raffinata architettura e per il re musulmano Baz Bahadur che si innamorò della regina hindu Rani Roopmati.
